Participation feedback from children and Care leavers

Getting involved, having a say and making a difference

Knowsley have 2 groups called MADE Junior and MADE Senior.  Children come together to share their thoughts and views and get involved in team building activities and events

“You should get involved in the groups so you can meet other people, it helps you to see things differently.  I know this has helped me to become the person I am today”

(A comment from a MADE member.  Made is Knowsley’s children in care council)

There are many opportunities for children and Care leavers to use their experiences to help teach staff and students about what matters and what makes the difference from their perspective:

“I love delivering training in the universities.  The student social workers learn from our experience’s, and you can see that they actually ‘feel’ what it’s like for us like…you know”

(A comment from a Care leaver who supported the facilitation of training to John Moores university students, social work degree and master’s students)

We really believe in the value of having children and Care leavers sit on interview panels.  It helps us to see it from a different angle and perspective:

“I interview for new social workers with staff from social services (children’s social care), its mad because they usually think the same as you which is nice because they are looking for the same in new social workers as us too.  They also listen if you have a problem with someone, I definitely want to do it again”

(Comment from a young interview panel member)

If you are interested in getting involved in any of the many opportunities, we have available to support you to have a say, participate and make a difference then just ask your social worker/IRO/Support worker for more detail or alternatively send me a text on 07966830777
